Tips from Paul: #15 Tricks of the Trade

Use these simple tricks to keep up with those pesky house projects

1. When locks become sticky, place some lubricant liberally on the key and work the lock. Repeat this until it moves freely. A little lubricant on a bolt will also help the action.

2. Remember to re-seal masonry and mortar to help it last longer. Some products are more porous than others and need more care. Ask your mason!

3. Don't leave tape or decals in place for an extended period of time or they become harder to remove.

4. A shop vac without the filter and a narrow attachment can be used to suck material away from a buried gate valve. This can save a lot of digging.

5. During any construction project collect printed materials detailing the care of different materials, finishes, and products - and keep them in one place. A binder of manuals and installation directions can be of great help!
